Roof Membrane Installation

Trusted | Professional | Responsive

Like everything in life, quality matters and you get what you pay for. Investing in your roofing system is critical if you care about what it covers. Hence, it is crucial to invest in a quality roof membrane installed by roofers with the experience, credentials, and reputation to do it the right way.

What is a Roof Membrane?

A roof membrane is a material used to protect buildings from water and weather. The membrane’s primary function is to prevent water from leaking in a building. Roof membranes are manufactured using different materials like PVC and thermoplastic polyolefin (“TPO”) and are suitable for commercial buildings in regions experiencing severe weather like the Atlantic coastline.

At Hound Roofing, our highly trained team offers the best quality roof membranes and professional installation services.

Why you Need a Quality Roof Membrane

Roof membranes offer fantastic longevity, durability, and water-proof properties on your roofing system. Here are just a few reasons why you should consider selecting a membrane installed by Hound Roofing:

  • Protection for your most important assets, whether retail, commercial, residential, healthcare, scholastic, or industrial.
  • It is often a requirement for fire ratings and keeping commercial buildings up to code.
  • Above deck insulation makes an excellent insulator.

Single-Ply Roofing Membrane

We’ve installed single-ply membrane commercial roofing for more than 30 years along the coast. This is among the many reasons why Hound Roofing stands out against our competitors.

Wondering how these roof membrane types work? They are made of single-ply sheets that can be mechanically fastened, adhered, ballasted, or vacuum-sealed to the deck. There are different single-ply membranes to fit your facility’s needs and budget.

Types of Single-Ply Membrane Roofing

There are two common types of single-ply membranes used for commercial roofing. These are Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO). Both are manufactured in sheets ordinarily measuring six and 10 feet wide. Here’s how they differ:

PVC

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a single-ply roofing membrane used on flat roofs.  It’s principal benefit versus TPO is its innate resistance to chemicals, food, grease and other expellants which may hit your roofing system, ensuring your flat roof can continue to serve you even when it’s exposed to harsh conditions.

TPO

TPO is another type of single-ply membrane that ranks as one of the rapidly growing commercial roofing systems worldwide. It is made of a layer of synthetics and reinforcing scrim used in covering flat roofs. TPO has natural reflecting properties to UV rays, and according to the NRCA, it has a 40% market share in commercial roofing.

Installation of Single-Ply Membrane Roofing

The installation for PVC and TPO single-ply membranes begins with a similar process. After cleaning or removing the existing roof, insulation is installed. Hound Roofing offers three major insulation options:

  • Polyisocyanurate (Polyiso)
  • Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)
  • Extruded Polystyrene (XPS)

After insulation, a cover board that holds the membrane can be added using one of the methods of attachment above. This is a protective layer adding durability to your installation (protection against a lot of foot traffic or hail damage, etc.). The next step involves rolling out the sheets and letting them relax.

Advantages of Single-Ply Membrane Roofing

There are numerous benefits of single-ply membrane roofing:

  • Choice of application methods
  • Choice of black or white for heat retention or UV reflection
  • Quick installation process
  • Over 50 years in the market
  • High tensile strength
  • There is no torch-down method of application which can be dangerous if not performed by trained, authorized personnel
